Cables

Knitted cables are created by simply crossing one group of stitches across another.

This surprisingly easy technique can be used to create the most beautiful and intricate rivers of stitches. Cables can add the most beautiful textures to knitted items and are often associated with a style of knitting known Aran knitting.

Cables help to create a dense and warm fabric as stitches are crossed across each other. They can be used very effectively to create heavily textured patterns by combining several different cables or a simple cable can be included to add some visual interest to an item.

Our exhibition explores cables as a visual tool as well as a means to create a warm and firm fabric.
