Lace

Creating knitted lace essentially involves consciously putting holes into your knitting to create a pattern.

While creating holes in your knitting may seem counterintuitive, combining various increase and decrease stitches creates beautiful and intricate patterns in the knitted fabric. These combinations of stitches can be used to create beautifully intricate patterns.

Knitted lace is often creates using lace weight yarn, which is very thin yarn. However even finer yarns include thread and cobweb weight yarns. These can be used to create beautiful shawls as well as other items.

Lace is often associated with accessories, scarves, shawls, gloves and socks. However as our exhibition shows knitted lace can also add striking textures to garments, hats and blankets among items.
